New collaborative Classroom—La Cité
Invited to develop thematic concepts for the renovation of four classrooms, three at the Aviation Parkway campus and one at the Orleans campus, the fit-ups had to take into account the new realities of face-to-face and virtual teaching simultaneously.
The concepts offer a distinct theme for each classroom and ensure the integration of the necessary technologies for dual-mode teaching (virtual and face-to-face simultaneously). The approach was inspired by the natural elements of our environment: air, water, earth and fire. A palette of colors and textures was established for each classroom, in addition to the choice of furniture, and a natural wood batten treatment integrates the technological components (loudspeaker, TV screen, electrical and audio-visual connections…).
Height-adjustable tables and chairs on wheels provide the flexibility needed for a variety of teaching and teamwork modes. Each classroom features areas for discussion, interaction and teaching, with curved armchairs, whiteboards and a mobile lectern for the teacher.
The natural wood batten treatment is designed as a furring-out to conceal the wiring without drilling into the existing classroom walls. Wooden slats can be easily removed and reinstalled for the addition and maintenance of audio-visual equipment.
