Extension and renovation of Pontiac regional municipality office building

The project consisted of expanding the administrative area of the Pontiac Regional Municipality office (MRC) at the front of the existing building. This addition includes an area of 615m2 extending over two floors with a new accessible main entrance and a new public reception area which connects the new addition. The functional program consisted of executive offices, a large council room with adjacent kitchen, a tourist information display area, and public washrooms. The lower level opens onto a common outdoor terrace and accommodates additional office space, a conference room, as well as changing rooms and showers for employees. The use of timber was an important element during the design phase and, as a result, is featured throughout the extension with the integration of a solid wood structure and the use of cedar and pine for both indoor and outdoor cladding. Despite a very tight budget, the architects successfully integrated a high level of quality into the design details and the selection of sustainable products for this institutional building.
